Fundraising

You may have noticed that I have a new ticker on the right side of my blog - the patch of grass with the ladybug. This is to keep you posted on the progress we are making with raising money for Abby, the baby I spoke about in my last post. This is not to ask you for money at all. It is just to keep you aware of how much we have raised through various fundraisers we are planning. My goal is for us to raise $3,000 in the next couple of months. Of course, I hope for a lot more, but my heart is telling me that this is a good amount to shoot for.

Thank you for your fundraising ideas they have been very helpful, but most of all thanks for your prayers. The family greatly appreciates it.

I Need Some Help

Okay, my blogger friends. I want to pick your brain about something. I have a friend who has an 18-month-old daughter, Abby Rose, in the hospital and will probably be there through February. She is on a ventilator and has crashed at least 3 times, maybe more. Here's where I need help. My sister and I want to do some sort of fundraiser for the family. They do have insurance, but it will not cover everything. To give you an idea of how expensive this is going to be for them, the baby was transported by helicopter to the Children's Hospital only 12 minutes away from here. The bill for that alone is $15,255!!!!!!

My sister and I did a BBQ fundraiser a few years ago where we asked local restaurants to donate food. It went over pretty well. I think we raised $400-$500, I don't remember exactly. We may do that again, but I just wanted some other ideas as well.

I have seen on other blogs where someone was raising money and they took donations directly through the blog. I'm not sure that's what I want to do, but if alot of people are open to it, I would give it a try.

So, your help would be appreciated. If you are interested in learning more about Abby and her family, we have a Facebook page set up for her....Pray for Abby Rose.

Thanks for your help in advance.

Baby Quilt

I finished the baby quilt that I volunteered to make last week. I was surprised at how fast it came together. Here are a few pictures of it. This is my daughter. She wanted to get in on the action. :)
This is the first time that I have appliqued a name on a quilt. I think it would have looked better if I had used a yellow background, instead of white, where the name is, but oh well. I'm very pleased with it.

I may not get a chance to post again before Saturday. If not, I hope all of you, my friends, have a Merry Christmas!

Look What I Found!

I saw this magazine on the internet recently and have been diligently looking for it ever since. I finally found it yesterday at Hancock Fabrics. I've flipped through it, but I haven't had time to really look at all the different blocks. I'm excited to start making some of these wonderful designs.

Speaking of not having any time lately, do you remember that I said I was NOT making anything for Christmas this year. I had decided that everything I was giving as gifts would be purchased? Then, I decided to make my niece a hooded towel. That is finished and turned out beautifully. I actually have a tutorial in the works for that. BUT, I want to know why we quilters do this to ourselves. Okay, it's 6 days til Christmas and what do I do? I volunteer to make a baby quilt that has to be finished by Wednesday night!!!! What was I thinking? This is the busiest time for me with embroidery so I probably won't get much sewing done at work like I usually do.

I went yesterday to Hancock (when I found the magazine) and just bought some fabrics that I thought would be cute. I had a pattern in my mind, sort of. I really didn't know how much I would need of each fabric. I just bought what felt right :) You know, if you have a little left over that's okay, right? Today after church I sat down and cut out all of the material and actually have all of the squares sewn into rows. I have to sew these rows together now. I hope to have time to do that at work tomorrow. I'm so excited about this quilt now. I appliqued the baby's name on it, which I've never done, and it looks so cute. It's only 36 x 36 so hopefully it won't take that long.

I will definitely be posting pictures when I get this done. I didn't have my camera with me today or I would tease you a little bit :)

Hope you have a wonderful week!

Reduced Price on Flower Rag Quilt

I have reduced the price on the flower rag quilt I posted about a few weeks ago. You can click on this link to go directly to that post. There is still time to have it shipped before Christmas if anyone is interested. I think the cut-off for shipping is Monday, December 20th.

It is here in my Etsy shop.

I'm Still Here

I have been extremely busy this week with embroidery at work. I'm not completely caught up, but I should be by the weekend. I was doing so good at posting everyday and then I skip one night and that turns into a week before you know it :/

I have a few projects in the works, but not for Christmas really. I have decided that I am going to make my niece a hooded towel for Christmas. So, I'll post that as soon as I finish it. I have until next Saturday to get that done. That's when we are having one of our family Christmas parties.

It has been soooo cold here in SC. I'm at the computer right now bundled up and trying to convince Buffy that she needs to lay on my feet to keep them warm. That's not going so well. :)

I hope everyone has had a wonderful week so far.

Mini Quilting Bee

Today I signed up for the 3x6 Sampler Quilt Mini Bee. I've never joined a quilting bee before, but I thought I would try this one. It is great if you don't want to commit to a full year. This bee is run by quarters. You can join one quarter, skip one or do them all.

Each group is divided into hives. Each hive has 7 members. You only have to make 6 blocks. You mail these blocks to the other 6 members in your hive.

Click on the link above to get complete details and to sign up for the 1st quarter, beginning in January.

A Day of Embroidery

Today at work I embroidered all day. Everyone is bringing in items to be embroidered for Christmas. Here are pictures of some of the things I did today.

I didn't make the apron or any of the dresses, just embroidered them. You can't tell very well in the picture, but the 3rd dress is lime green with the pink monogram.
